Standing in solidarity with the City of Ottawa in responding to the humanitarian crisis in East Africa, the Philippine Embassy took part in the fundraiser organized by His Worship, Mayor Jim Watson on September 14.

Dubbed as "A Global Affair:  An Evening for Famine Relief", the interactive cocktail reception at the City Hall featured entertainment and international cuisine sponsored by the diplomatic corps.

"Part of the richness and unique nature of our great city is the strength and generosity of our people," Mayor Watson said.

"I know they will come together and find creative ways to make a difference and this fundraising event is one way people can contribute," he added.

Proceeds of the event totaling C$35,000 will go to The Humanitarian Coalition, an umbrella organization composed of Care Canada, OxFam Canada, OxFam-Québec, Plan Canada and Save the Children Canada.

Under Canada's East Africa Drought Relief Fund, the federal government will match private donations dollar-for-dollar, without limit, until September 16.
