08 July 2019, Ingleside, Ontario – Ambassador Petronila P. Garcia, together with Minister and Consul General Alan L. Deniega, attended the annual summer gathering of the members of the Filipino Community from Montreal, Ottawa and Kingston, dubbed as Tri-City events, on 07 July 2019 at St. Lawrence Park, Woodland Beach and Picnic Area, Longsault Parkway, Ingleside, Ontario.
In her speech, Ambassador Garcia acknowledged the Filipino-Canadian Association of West Island (FCAWI) as the prime mover of the Tri-City events which was initiated in the late 70’s. It has since been the venue of bringing together many organizations from Montreal, Ottawa and Kingston for day of sports, entertainment, and the traditional Filipino style “salu-salo”.
Ambassador Garcia also noted the successful celebration of the 121st Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence and the Canada-wide commemoration of Filipino Heritage month held in June, 2019. She highlighted the valuable contribution of the Filipino Canadians in the development of Canada. There are 931,000 Filipinos all over the country making it the home of the second largest Filipino diaspora in the world.
She encouraged the community to join the Embassy in commemorating 70 years of Philippines-Canada Bilateral relations, by being the best Canadians that they can be, hardworking and law abiding. –END-
