8 June 2019, Ottawa – The Filipino Community in Ottawa came together on Saturday, 8 June 2019, to celebrate Mass in commemoration of the 121st Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.
The Mass held at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mother Parish Church was led by parish priest Fr. Dominic Maria Lim, OFM Conv., and attended by members of the various Filipino organizations in Ottawa. Officers and staff of the Embassy of the Philippines in Canada were also present during the mass and afterwards joined the community for a dinner reception at the church’s multipurpose hall.
The Independence Day Mass is a long-standing tradition in Ottawa’s Filipino community as one of the many activities marking Philippine Independence. This year, the community is also celebrating the first Filipino Heritage Month in Canada. END.
