08 November 2018, Ottawa – Ambassador Petronila P. Garcia welcomed ABS-CBN Broadcast Journalist Mr. Jeff Canoy at the Chancery. Mr. Canoy is the recipient of this year’s Marshal McLuhan Fellowship which is a flagship project of the Embassy of Canada in the Philippines in the field of public diplomacy. The project was launched in 1997 with the aim of encouraging responsible journalism in the Philippines, noting that a strong media is essential to a strong democratic society.

The recipient of the Marshal McLuhan Fellowship is brought on a study tour of Canada to interact with his counterparts and discuss issues of common interest. Mr. Canoy’s selection was based on his topic entitled “Reporting from the Margins: The role of journalism in covering crises and conflict situations,” which focused on the Marawi crises. END
