26 May 2018, Ottawa – The Embassy of the Philippines in Canada held a benefit dinner on behalf of Family Services Ottawa (FSO) at the newly inaugurated Sentro Rizal Ottawa on Saturday, 26 May 2018. The dinner, which was donated by the Embassy for the FSO “Music on a Mission” fundraiser held in 2017, featured traditional Filipino dishes such as okoy (shrimp and vegetable cakes), chicken inasal (grilled chicken in traditional herbs and spices) with mango salad, and maja blanca (coconut pudding).
Dinner guests led by HostedBizz, Inc. founders Jim Stechyson and Paul Butcher were also treated to an impromptu performance by internationally acclaimed Filipino pianist Dr. Raul Sunico who performed George Canseco’s timeless classic Hanggang sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan (At the End of Eternity) and George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.
“This is the third year that we have worked with Family Services Ottawa,” noted Philippine Ambassador to Canada Petronila Garcia. “We are happy to share a glimpse of the Philippines and reach out to the community that has welcomed Filipino migrants for more than half a century.” END.
