Filipinos in Canada Bid Farewell to Ambassador Garcia

25 August 2020, Ottawa – Filipinos throughout Eastern Canada gathered today for two unprecedented farewell events held in honor of outgoing Philippine Ambassador Petronila P. Garcia.
In the first event, members of different Filipino community organizations in Ottawa, ON, Montreal, QC, Fredricton, NB, Halifax, NS, and Summerside, PEI, congregated online in a despedida for the Ambassador hosted by the Embassy of the Philippines in Canada.
During the virtual farewell, representatives from the various organizations delivered heartfelt messages for the Ambassador, thanking her for her dedicated service and her efforts to reach out to the Filipino diaspora throughout the country. Some of the participants also thanked her for always highlighting Filipino culture and the arts while others expressed their appreciation for the consular outreach missions held by the Philippine Embassy in their provinces every year.

Philippine Ambassador Turns Over ASPAC Regional Deanship to Brunei High Commissioner

The Heads of Missions of the Asia Pacific Group of Ambassadors and High Commissioners bid farewell to Philippine Ambassador Garcia as the latter ends her tour of duty and turns over the regional deanship to Brunei High Commissioner Pg Kamal Bashah Pg Ahmad (top, second from left).
25 August 2020, Ottawa. Philippine Ambassador Petronila P. Garcia turned over the Asia Pacific (ASPAC) Regional Deanship in Ottawa to Brunei High Commissioner Pg Kamal Bashah Pg Ahmad today in a virtual ceremony. Ambassador Garcia became the dean of the regional group on 1 September 2017 following the end of the tour of duty of Ambassador Radnaabazar Altangerel of Mongolia.
Ambassador Garcia thanked ASPAC HOMs for their support during her tenure as regional dean of the group, while Brunei High Commissioner Ahmad wished Ambassador Garcia well on her new assignment.
The Asia Pacific Group of Ambassadors is composed of the heads of missions from the following countries, namely: (1) Afghanistan; (2) Australia; (3) Bangladesh; (4) Brunei Darussalam; (5) People’s Republic of China; (6) India; (7) Indonesia; (8) Japan; (9) Republic of Korea; (10) Malaysia; (11) Myanmar; (12) Mongolia; (13) Nepal; (14) New Zealand; (15) Pakistan; (16) the Philippines; (17) Sri Lanka; (18) Thailand; and (19) Viet Nam. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the member institutions of the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Ad Hoc Committee created through Executive Order No. 134, s. 1999, join the entire country in the observance of IHL Day 2020 with the theme “Preserving Human Dignity in Times of Armed Conflict: A Shared Responsibility”.
The Philippines, as a Contracting Party to all four Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949 and its three protocols, reaffirms its commitment to the effective implementation of IHL.
